Boundary Training

Requirement: All authorized ministers (ordained, licensed, commissioned) in the Penn Central Conference are required to take 6 credits of Boundary Awareness Training every 5 years.

There are two ways in which this requirement can be met:

1.       The Basic Boundary Awareness Course (using 4 videos) will be offered every year on Friday morning and afternoon at the Conference Annual Meeting.  All authorized ministers must take this basic course at least once.  It can also be taken multiple times and used to fulfill the 6-credit requirement.  Cost and registration will be provided as part of the Annual Meeting information.  Other opportunities for the Basic Course may be offered throughout the year.

 2.        For those who have completed the Basic Course, there is the option of meeting the 6-credit requirement by completing the 4-credit Advanced Course plus one of the 2-credit electives.

Registration information for the updated Advanced Courses are listed below.

The 2-credit electives can be arranged by Association ministeriums as desired.  The 2-credit elective possibilities include the following (others may be added):

  • Risk Factor for Clergy Misconduct
  • Clergy Empowerment and Disempowerment
  • Creating Clergy Consultation Groups
  • Dealing with Co-dependent Behavior between Clergy and parishioner
  • Leaving a Congregation well/Boundaries with previous congregation (dealing with anger, guilt, desire for continual contact)
  • Boundary awareness and internet/social networking

One elective will be offered at the Conference Annual Meeting.

After a Course is completed, the authorized minister will receive a certificate.  It is the responsibility of the authorized minister to maintain verification of completion of the required number of credits.

Any request for exemption from meeting this requirement must be made in writing to the appropriate Association Committee on Ministry/Church and Ministry Committee.
